Binding Workshop

Keep a variety of skills on hand so that finishing your quilt projects is just as fun as starting them!

Not every project should be finished in the same way-- sure, we all have favorites, but what if you could use any one of five methods to put that finishing touch on your quilts? Variety and practice will make your quilty life easier.

In this tutorial, I will demonstrate the following:

  • how to make binding
  • how to attach binding to hand-sew on the back
  • how to attach binding to topstitch by machine
  • how to make & attach flange binding
  • how to make & attach faux-flange binding
  • how to use lace to enhance your binding
  • how to use decorative stitches and fonts to enhance your binding

For the hands-on portion,  you will need:

  • sewing machine with accessories
  • walking foot, all-purpose foot
  • thread, bobbins, sz 90/14 needles
  • pins / wonder clips
  • rotary cutter + mat
  • 1/4 yd quilting cotton (any color will work fine)

I will provide a small quilt sandwich to practice on.

Skill Level: beginner
