Beginner Quilting: 18" Pillow

Inspired by Edyta Sitar's "Pillow Talk," I wanted to offer a beginner pillow-making session to help our new quilt-makers get started. Want the book? It's available here. 
Let's make a quilt! Learn the essential skills of quiltmaking:  cutting, piecing, quilting, binding-- plus, we'll be making a fun zipper back so that your pillow cover can be removable and washable. Two sessions allow for easy completion, plus we offer pillow forms here in store. Beginners will learn lots!

Session #1: Cutting, Piecing

You will need-
  • 3 FQs of coordinating fabrics
  • rotary cutter, mat, ruler (6"x24" or 12.5" sq)
  • sewing machine, 1/4" foot
  • coordinating thread (I recommend 50wt cotton)
  • machine needle (sz 12-14)
  • basic notions like scissors, pins, marking pen/chalk, etc

Session #2: Quilting, Back, Binding

You will need:
  • 3/4 yd for backing
  • coordinating zipper (20" min)
  • 1/4 yd for binding
  • coordinating thread to quilt (I recommend 50wt cotton)
  • sewing machine, walking foot
  • rotary cutter, mat, ruler (6"x24" or 12.5" sq)
  • basic notions like scissors, pins, marking chalk/pen, etc.
