Bishop Dress

Practice the basics of construction and geometric smocking with this classic bishop dress class! Construct in the morning, block over lunch, and start smocking in the afternoon. Get the tips and tricks you need to make these gorgeous little heirlooms with confidence. The possibilities are endless once you have the technique down!
Are you ready?
Students should be able to cut out a garment pattern with confidence and use their sewing machines independently. The full dress may not be 100% complete by the end of the day, but we will have Sit & Sews and Pick-A-Pattern classes in the following weeks so that you can finish (with help if needed!) at your own pace.
You will need:
- Bishop pattern (Children's Corner) or your favorite bishop design
- your choice of cotton, batiste, or broadcloth fabric prewashed, pressed, AND cut to your chosen size
- sewing machine with accessories (machine must be capable of zigzag, buttonholes, blind hem, etc)
- smocking pleater with needles & threads *we will have 1 available in the classroom
- blocking board *we will have about 4 available the day of class
- iron *we will have 3 available the day of class
- common sewing notions like pins, ripper, scissors, marking tools, etc
- floss or pearl cotton to coordinate or contrast with your fabric
- tapestry needle #26 (or your favorite for smocking, some use chenille?)
*A beginner smocking plate will be provided to each participant!*
