Quiltmaking 101

Welcome newbies, this one's for you!
Let's make a simple mini quilt project to learn the essential skills you need to become a quilt maker.
Supply list:
- sewing machine with accessories: AP foot, walking foot, 1/4" foot, zipper foot, darning foot.
- sz. 12-14 universal needles
- (4) fat quarters of quilting cotton that you like together-- 2 "background" and 2 prints, for example.
- coordinating thread (I like 50wt cotton Aurifil, but all purpose is fine!)
- 5/8 yd - backing
- 1/4 yd - binding
- rotary cutter (45mm) & mat *we have some mats in the classroom*
- rulers: 6.5" sq, 12.5" sq and 6" x 24" (or bring what you have!)
- scrap of batting at least 20" sq. (must be for machine quilting, NOT hand quilting)
- IF YOU WANT TO FINISH AS A PILLOW COVER: 5/8 yd muslin and 20-22" zipper
- pins, scissors, marking tool, common sewing notions
We will cover & practice these skills:
- using a rotary cutter to cut squares and rectangles
- mark & piece half-square triangles
- assemble a quilt block
- cut & attach borders
- sandwich & quilt *we will try free motion & walking foot quilting*
- optional- zipper backing for pillow cover
- cut, join, and attach binding
Students under 16 must have a parent/guardian stay with them during this class.
